What is database publishing?

Database publishing means taking data that resides in a database and publishing it in the form of a catalogue, directory, price list, membership list, or whatever. If this is what you need to do with your data, and whether you want to publish it in print or on the Internet, Daybook Publisher can simplify the job considerably by automating the most time-consuming and laborious part of the job.

Daybook Pubisher is compatible with Quark, Indesign, Framemaker, XML, HTML, Access, Filemaker and SQL.

Most organisations publish data - price lists, catalogues, directories, classified ads, even the humble phone list. And very often they are published in a variety of formats, for print, web, CD, etc.
Daybook Publisher automates the time-consuming and tedious task of creating your publication, by sending publish-ready data to Quark, PageMaker, InDesign, FrameMaker, MultiAd Creator, your favourite HTML editor or word-processor, or as XML.

Easy to set up
Daybook Publisher is a relational database with special features added to make it easy for you to publish the data. You set up Publishing Styles, which tell Daybook Publisher:

* What data to include for each record
* How to sort the data
* How to format each paragraph or item within a paragraph
* If you want to include pictures, what size to draw them (not supported by all publishing destinations)

Automatically format your data
All the data is automatically formatted in the appropriate font, style, colour, etc. when it is transferred from the database to the publishing destination. This saves a great deal of time (as opposed to formatting the data manually) and ensures that everything is consistently formatted - user error is eliminated.

Once a Publishing Format has been set up, it can be saved and used again and again. You don't have to remember what to include, how to format it, how to sort it, etc.

Indexes made easy
Automatically insert index tags, making the creation of indices very simple and error free
You can return your index data to the database, so that any type of cross-reference indices can be created easily.

Get your data from anywhere
Publisher's sophisticated data import facilities mean that you can bring in data from almost any source (including other Daybook modules), thus avoiding manual data entry errors.
Imported data can update existing data (e.g., when there is a new price list)
In addition, you can read printed text into the database, using optical character recognition.

Customise your system
Daybook Publisher Pro is for the professional who needs optimum speed and reliability. It is flexible and adaptable to any situation, with configurable entry screens. It can also be customised to suit a client's specific needs.

Daybook Publisher Pro's scripting language means that specially written routines can perform tasks that are not already catered for in Publisher. A script can be run manually, or automatically when data are imported or exported, or when a record is saved.

A versatile powerful database
Daybook Publisher is a fully functional relational database. You can do all the usual database functions, such as searching, sorting, printing labels, and reporting.

Publisher for marketing
Daybook Publisher is so powerful that you may well want to use it to do more than just maintain and publish your data.

* Do word-processed letters and mail shots
* Send emails directly from the database
* Send faxes
